Typical lossless formats include FLAC, ALAC, and WAV (and sometimes AIFF). Lossless files are usually larger than lossy ones because they keep more data. However, they can still be compressed efficiently without losing information, so they’re often much smaller than uncompressed formats like raw PCM.

When to use lossless
Lossless audio is useful when you want maximum fidelity, such as for critical listening, high-quality playback systems, or archiving your music library. If your listening setup is limited (e.g., basic speakers or heavy background noise), the audible difference versus high-quality lossy audio may be small.
